F.A.Q.

What is IVAO?

Imagine a network where thousands of real peoples are connected simultaneously, pilots and controllers, enjoying flying or controlling in the same time and you can be part of this hobby. This will give you a significant knowledge of aviation and in the same time you will make lost of good friends around the world.

The IVAO (International Virtual Aviation Organization) is an international organization that supplies high quality service to it users. Everybody can join, this is free service. You can also take advantage of the free training.
IVAO was formed in 1998 with the aim to create an environment for people who likes aviation. Back then a few good friends crated this community and turned out to be one of the world’s largest, most active and most professional simulator communities, and we should all be proud of.

You can reach IVAO here: http://www.ivao.aero

All countries have his own section inside the community called divisions. You are now reading the Hungarian division’s page. Inside the division is so called the members and staff who provides training and organizes events.

Connecting to network

If you are not a member yet you can sign up here. After you read the R&R you will get a registration form where you can enter your personal information. You can only register with your real name! Here you can also choose if you want to join as a pilot or ATC (we recommend to cheek both).

After you send the form you will get 2 passwords, use the IvAn password for IvAp (flying) and IvAc (controlling), use the web password to log in to www.ivao.aero for example: access the download page.

What do I need to get started?

You can connect as a pilot, as a controller or as an observer. You can download the software here: http://www.ivao.aero/softdev

If you want to control or just observe the traffic you will need the IvAc software, this simulates a real radar on a certain region.

If you want to connect with IvAc you will need a sector file that you can download from Downloads menu this sector file is good for the Hungarian fir only.

If you want to fly you will need on of the followings, Microsoft Flight Simulator or X-Plane. If you use FS9 or FSX you will need the IvAp software, if you use X-Plane you will need X-IvAp. After installation you can start this from the IVAO located on the top. Most people use Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Both IvAc and IvAp have extended manuals which will explain the use of the software. These manuals are available in Hungarian language too.

Both pilots and controller will need a so called Teams Speak (TS) for communication

Rules that I have to follow

First we have to take the simulation very seriously, not just for our self but for other enjoyment too. This is not a simple game it is a very complicated simulation because we are trying to simulate “as real as it gets” This dos not mean that the beginners can not connect, it just means that they have to take it seriously just like everybody else, which means that you have to follow the rules, you have to follow the ATC commends, don’t chat on the TS ext.

Besides the “real as it gets” this is for most people just a hobby. We always try to make the newbie’s comfortable and supply them with enough knowledge. If you run in to a beginner be polite and helpful to the best of your knowledge and never use foul language. Everybody comes here to enjoy flying and to relax.

If you have problem with somebody, make sure that you resolve that in private or ask for help from one of our staff members. Don’t let develop hate between the HU members.

And last but not least make sure that you study the rules and regulation and use them accordingly on the network.

How can I improve my knowledge?

We recommend starting in the training section in our website. We have Training staff ready to help you with any question. If you just joined IVAO-HU one of our trainers will contact you and will offer his help with your first steps to just get online or master the VFR and IFR flying rules.

According to your abilities you will be able to receive different ratings and later request exams or even be one of our trainer or be a staff member. In certain event’s you could receive a called badge or points.

  • As a controller

At first you will be Student1 (S1) after 10 hours of controlling will get the S2 rating. With this rating you are able to login as GND or TWR in most airports. S3 will come after 25 hours of controlling and a passed IvAc exam. This exam is based on the use of the IvAc software.

For C1, C2, C3 you will need a good Theoretical and a Practical exam after you have the required controlled hours.

If you have any real life qualifications and you can supply with proper documentation the you can get a fast upgrade, in that case please contact the HU-DIR.

  • As a pilot

You start as Second Flight Officer and after 10 flying hours will be upgraded to First Flight Officer. Captain rating can be achieved after 25h and a good IvAp exam.

For Flight Captain, Senior Captain and Senior Flight Captain you will need a passed theoretical and a practical exam.

You can get the Heavy Weather badge if you can land in bad weather, strong crosswind or very low visibility.

If you are a pilot in real life and you can supply us with the proper documentation then you can get a fast upgrade. In that case we suggest to contact the HU-DIR.

  • Why do I need to do exam?

You can fly or control with the lowest rating too, but you may be restricted in some case. Example, with S3 you cannot control in the evening hours or you can not fly in a event with a FFO rating ext.

The other pilots and controllers will respect your rating accordingly. And last you will need a C1 or a FC rating to be elected in the staff.

What are Virtual Airlines (VA)?

Virtual Airlines are working just like a real life airline, they have a hangar a timetable for flight, pilots use the same callsign and advance the same way as in real life, after so many hours they advance to bigger airplane.

Some VAs are based on a real life airline. If you are thinking of joining one first make sure that you read the rules and you can accommodate them. You can be part of multiple airlines in the same time.

You don’t need to be part of one any VA to be able to fly on IVAO. You can use your own private callsign any time except when flying a scheduled flight for the VA.
